Starting Week 2, tutorials will include a participation component. For an example, see Question 1 in Tutorial 1 on PrairieLearn.
Here is how tutorial participation will work:
Participation points are based on attendance and serious effort. Your attendance will be recorded during your tutorial. Please arrive on time, stay for the full tutorial, and make a genuine attempt at the participation questions.
If you miss your assigned tutorial, you may attend another tutorial and still receive the participation points. However, students assigned to that tutorial have priority. If the room is full and there are no available seats, you may be asked to leave and in that case, you will not receive participation points.
To receive full participation points for the course, you need to attend and participate in at least 7 out of 9 tutorials. This gives you some flexibility if you need to miss a tutorial occasionally.
If you cannot attend a tutorial, you can still work through the questions on your own but you will not receive the participation points. You will receive some feedback on your answers.
Please attempt the participation questions on your own, without help from LLMs. You will encounter similar questions on exams, where you will not have access to LLMs. Treat these questions as an opportunity to check what you can do and identify anything you need to work on.
Tutorials are a great place to interact with your TA, learn from your peers, ask questions, and get help when you are stuck. They are also a safe environment to make mistakes and learn from them before the exams. Make good use of this resource!
